ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned right wing Dustin Penner to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).
Penner, 23 (9/28/82), has appeared in 19 games this season with Anaheim, earning 4-3=7 points with 14 penalty minutes. The 6-4, 245-pound winger recorded his first NHL goal and tied a franchise rookie record for goals in a game with 2-1=3 points on Nov. 30 vs. Phoenix.
With the Pirates, the Winkler, Manitoba native has played in 40 games this season, scoring 30-31=61 points with an AHL leading +28 rating. Despite missing 22 Portland games while with Anaheim, Penner still ranks first on the club in goals and second in points (Ryan Shannon, 21-46=67 points).
