April Skate Raises $18,860

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
The April Skate, held by THE RINKS- Anaheim ICE and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD),  raised a total of $18,860 in 2009, which was the most raised by any corporate team across the country for MADD.

The fundraiser has been held the last two years in memory of April Whang, a former long-time Anaheim ICE employee who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in an automobile accident on Feb. 1, 2009. All proceeds from the “April Skate” benefit MADD Orange County to help continue the fight to stop drunk driving, support the victims of violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

A graduate of Sunny Hills High School, April was known for her warm smile and kind spirit. Prior to her passing at the age of 26, Whang had been working at Ultimate Skate and Hockey for three years. A former figure skater, April is survived by her parents, Kyung and Brian Whang, as well as her sister, Kimberly.

THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE is the Official Training Center of the Anaheim Ducks and is located at 300 W. Lincoln Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92805.For more information, call 714-535-RINK or visit
