The match ups are set for the 2013 IIHF World Championship quarterfinals, which get under way Thursday in Helsinki and Stockholm.
Team USA, including Stephen Gionta and Ryan Carter, will face Ilya Kovalchuk, Andrei Loktionov and the Russians, who have added Alex Ovechkin to their roster. Puck drop is 6 a.m. ET
Marek Zidlicky and the Czech Republic take on undefeated Switzerland in Stockholm at 8:45 a.m. ET. Also in Stockholm, Henrik Tallinder and Team Sweden will battle Canada at 2:15 p.m. ET.
Saturday's semifinals will pit the top Helsinki team versus Stockholm's second seed, and the top Stockholm seed against Helsinki's second seed. The winners of those games will play for gold Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET in Stockholm, while the losers will go head-to-head for bronze at 10 a.m. ET.
Kovalchuk finished the seven-game preliminary round leading the tournament in goals (8), points (13), plus-minus (tied, +8), and penalty minutes (tied, 29). He's tied for fourth with five assists and averaged 20:20 of ice time. Two of his goals were game winners.
