BRODEUR SHOOTS, AND SCORES
newjerseydevils.com – Ten years ago, Martin Brodeur made history with a shot he took, rather than one he saved.
On this day in 1997, Brodeur became just the second goaltender in playoff history to score a goal, as the Devils beat Montreal, 5-2, in the first game of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal.

New Jersey went on to win the series in five games, as Brodeur shutout the Canadiens, 4-0, in the deciding game, with Kevin Dean netting the series-winning goal.
Philadelphia's Ron Hextall was the first goaltender to score a goal in the playoffs, recording an empty-netter against the Washington Capitals in 1989.
The Devils resume their 2007 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal with the Tampa Bay Lightning this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (FSN NY 2, WWDJ 970 AM). New Jersey trails the series two games to one, and returns to the Meadowlands to play game five on Friday, April 20, at 7:00 p.m. (FSN NY, 92.3 Free FM).
