Last Wednesday, the Devils Grassroots program was on hand in South River, N.J., to help conduct the annual event, which has been a part of the Street Devils program since 1997.
Following an appearance by Devils Alumni Representative Bruce Driver, and team mascot N.J. Devil, participants were first organized by age group, and then went head-to-head in target shooting, breakaways and puck control.
Afterward, Driver took the time to talk to nearly 100 attendees about his path to the NHL, along with his veteran role on the Devils' Stanley Cup Championship team in 1995. The former blueliner signed autographs, and helped hand out Devils goodies like a 2007 team photo, Stanley Cup Championship team photos, posters and Devils trading cards.
All in all, it was a great day of education, competition and fun for all in attendance!

Last Thursday brought a Street Devils visit to Wall Township, where Devils Alumni Rep Rob Skrlac joined a busy N.J. Devil at the Wall Youth Center for End of Season Awards Ceremonies.
Skrlac spoke about his career in pro hockey, then led a clinic on proper hockey stick grip and shot form. Later, each participant got a chance to take a breakaway shot on N.J. Devil.
After N.J. Devil's goals-against average had gone through the roof, it was time for autographs from Skrlac, and Devils giveaways. Kids in attendance received Devils team towels, team photos and posters!
There are currently 46 Street Devils program centers throughout New Jersey. Each center is a self-running street hockey league. For more information on future hockey clinics in your area, contact the Devils Grassroots Program at (201) 935-6050.
