#RELENTLESS Fan of the Game: Christopher Edwards

by Gordy Stillman / New Jersey Devils
Season Ticket Member and Relentless Fan of the Game has been a fan of the New Jersey Devils since the franchise came to New Jersey in 1982. A resident of Staten Island, Edwards said he built a projection theater in his house to watch Devils games and the occasional movie.

NAME: Christopher Edwards

AGE: 56

SECTION: 130

HOMETOWN: Staten Island, NY.

CAREER: I work in the technology industry.

I HAVE BEEN A SEASON TICKET MEMBER FOR: 20 years, since right after the Devils won their first Stanley Cup.

I HAVE BEEN A DEVILS FAN SINCE: The team first came to New Jersey in 1982. I liked the original jerseys. I came to my first game in the Devils’ second season with my now-ex-wife, who was an Islanders fan. I didn’t agree with the whole idea that someone would come to the arena and root for the visiting team, so I started rooting for the Devils. It was my first experience with Hockey.

BEFORE EVERY DEVILS GAME, I MAKE SURE: I try to get here in time to see the puck drop. I succeed most of the time.

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT: I built a theater in my basement, with a screen that is 109 inches wide, and 7 feet tall, primarily to watch Devils games. We use it for movies sometimes, but it’s mostly for Devils games.

MY FAVORITE CURRENT PLAYER IS: Kyle Palmieri. I liked him when he played for Anaheim and was really happy when he came here. I like his energy and speed.

IF I COULD ASK HIM ONE THING: What do you do for fun when you’re not playing Hockey?

MY FAVORITE MARTY MOMENT IS: It actually has nothing to do with when he was on the ice, it’s from a meet and greet event at the arena three or four years ago. I asked him to sign a jersey, and after he did that, I said I’d have to retire the jersey, which I wore for most of his career. He looked at me like I had five heads, thinking I said he needed to retire. It was a good laugh once I clarified what I said.

MY FAVORITE PIECE OF DEVILS MEMORABILIA IS: My Brodeur Jersey. I bought it during my second season as a Season Ticket Member. I wore that jersey through almost his entire career with the Devils.

I AM #RELENTLESS BECAUSE: I celebrate every win, and I feel every loss.
