THE SCOOP

The Devils won the first two games of their three-game homestand and are going for the sweep Saturday against the Kings. New Jersey picked up wins against Colorado, 4-3, and Anaheim, 4-1. The Devils have also won four of their past five games.

The Jack Hughes-Jesper Bratt-Arseny Gritsyuk lines continues to power the offense. They've combined for seven goals and 16 points in the past five games.

New Jersey has adjusted its defensive structure and focus, and the results has been more consistent play in the D zone and less high danger chances surrendered. The D play has been a key in their recent success.

On Friday afternoon, the Devils made a massive splash to shake up the NHL world. The club acquired goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from Winnipeg.

The Kings started the season on a rough patch. They were the last team in the NHL to win a game: which came on Oct. 20 at Washington. With a 3-2 OT win on Long Island to follow that up, the Kings have won their last two games.

Los Angeles is in the midst of a five-game road swing. It started with wins in Washington and Long Island. After playing the Devils, the Kings finish against the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.

The Kings are playing without the services of Anze Kopitar for the first time since 2005. Many of last year's roster remains and they have good talents in Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiala, Quinton Byfield, Drew Doughty and Brandt Clarke.
