NJD vs. NYR: They said it

by Eric Marin / New Jersey Devils
Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Rangers lifted the Devils to 2-0 against their Hudson River rivals. They've outscored New York, 7-2, in the two games thanks to strong goaltending from Martin Brodeur and Cory Schneider, who have combined to stop 55 of 57 shots.

Ryan Carter's first two-goal game since April 11, 2010 keyed a big divisional road win for the Devils at Madison Square Garden.

Schneider pitched a 22-save shutout against the Blueshirts at Prudential Center back on Oct. 19. Brodeur followed that up with 33 saves in New Jersey's first trip to MSG.

Here's what the Devils were saying Tuesday after picking up their third victory in their last four games (3-0-1).

Andy Greene (1a, +2, 1 shot, 2 hits, 5 blocked shots):

"We played just a pretty good, solid road game. We took some penalties there and our PK came up big. We played a good team game tonight."

Coach Peter DeBoer on improving to 2-0 vs. the Rangers:

"We know these games are critical. They're all four-point games. This is a team that, the separation tonight is either six or seven points or it's two or three, so it's a key game."

DeBoer on what's changed for the Devils since their early-season struggles:

"I think we're finding ways to win. If you go back early in the season, we're playing a much better brand of hockey. I think we played fairly well at the end of the losing streak and just didn't find ways to win [or] lose late in games. Now we're finding ways to win those games. That's a confidence thing."

Ryan Carter (2g, +2, 3 shots, 2 hits) on playing at the Garden:

"Rivalry games are always the most fun to get up for. In college they were fun; in high school they were fun. I don't know that anything changes other than, this is when I'll use the term 'luck.' It's just one of those things where you go out and you play hard – sometimes they find their way in."

Brodeur after winning his third straight to improve to 5-3-2 (2.08 GAA, .913 save percentage):

"I feel good. I just want to win games. We've been winning as of late. If you call that [being in the] zone, that's a zone."

"I love playing against these guys, there's no doubt about that, like [Henrik] Lundqvist likes to play against us."

Dainius Zubrus (GWG, 2 shots, 2 hits, 2 blocked shots, 4-for-5 on faceoffs):

"The first 10 games we put ourselves in a bit of a hole, obviously. we all know that and we see the standings and we see these guys had a couple of good weeks and they climbed right back in there. Our goal is the same thing: stay the course now and try to win these close games, as many as we can, and put ourselves in the top eight."
