Jagr, Brunner set to skate in worlds

Devils forwards Jaromir Jagr and Damien Brunner are set to take part in the 2014 IIHF World Championship which gets underway Friday in Minsk, Belarus.

Brunner and Switzerland will open Group B preliminary-round play against Russia at 9:45 a.m. ET. Jagr and the Czech Republic face Slovakia in Group A prelims at 1:45 p.m. ET.

Devils' head coach Peter DeBoer will serve as an assistant for Team Canada under Dave Tippett.

It’s the ninth tournament appearance for Jagr, who’s seeking his third world championship title. He led the Czechs with nine points (2g-7a) in eight games en route to gold in 2005, and tied for the team lead with seven points (3g-4a) in nine games to claim his second gold in 2010. Overall, he has 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points in 60 world championship contests.

Brunner, who made his Olympic debut at Sochi, is making his third world championship appearance. He debuted in 2010, posting one goal and four assists in seven games. In 2012, he notched three goals and four assists in seven games.
