Patrik Elias missed Devils practice on Sunday and will be further evaluated by team physicians this week, President/CEO/GM Lou Lamoriello announced.
Elias took a heavy hit from Avalanche defenseman Ryan Wilson in the second period of the Devils' 3-1 loss at Colorado on Saturday. Elias remained on the ice for several minutes while he was attended to by the Devils' training staff. As he was taken off the ice on a stretcher, he waved to the crowd to signal that he was OK.
The Devils' all-time leading scorer, Elias flew back with the team Saturday night. He received neck and spine X-rays before leaving Denver and was given a CT scan as a precaution. Elias appeared to be hit in the chest by Wilson's shoulder. No penalty was assessed on the play.
New Jersey (32-13-1) is 2-2 on its current road trip, which concludes Monday afternoon at Long Island.
