The Devils and 20th Century Fox teamed up last Thursday to present an early screening of the hockey-themed family film, Tooth Fairy, starring Dwayne Johnson.
Children from Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson and Union Counties; Boys and Girls Club of Newark; and Youth Consultation Service were treated to a free preview at Newark Screens 6.
Devils alumni Ken Daneyko, Grant Marshall and Rob Skrlac got in on the fun with N.J. Devil, greeting the young moviegoers as they entered the theater.
In the film, Johnson is "The Tooth Fairy," aka Derek Thompson, a hard-charging hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids.
When Derek discourages a youngster's dreams, he's sentenced to one week's hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite wings and magic wand.
"The kids who attended had a great time, and it’s hockey theme made it a natural fit,” Daneyko said. “You’ll want to check it out just to see ‘The Rock’ in a tutu.”
Tooth Fairy also stars Ashley Judd, Billy Crystal and Julie Andrews, and is playing now at a theater near you.
