5 Things to Know about Ray Shero

Five things to know about new Devils GM Ray Shero:

1. He lived in Cherry Hill, NJ as a child while his father, Fred Shero, coached the Flyers. He was a star Little League shortstop who played on the same team as former MLB pitcher Orel Hershiser.

2. He attended St. Lawrence University, where he was a two-time captain of the hockey team and finished as one of the Top 10 scorers in school history. He graduated in 1984 with a double major in economics and sociology.

3. He was an 11th round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings in 1982 and opted to finish college before attempting a pro career. He went to training camp with the Kings in September 1985 but never played in an NHL game.

4. His father served as the Devils radio broadcaster in the early 80s and was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013. He and his father are one of the few father-son tandems to have their names on the Stanley Cup.

5. He served as associate GM of Team USA during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia
