Newark, NJ – The 2013 New Jersey Devils/New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association High School Ice Hockey Championships, presented by Barnabas Health, will take place with three games on Saturday, March 9 at Prudential Center in Newark. This marks the 16th year that the New Jersey Devils have hosted the high school championships, and during that time the number of varsity high school ice hockey programs has increased from 80 to 171.
The three games are set as follows: Non-Public Championship (1:00 PM); Public B Championship (3:00 PM); and Public A Championship (5:00 PM). The six participating teams will be announced following the state semifinals, which are set for March 5-6. 85 schools, including 54 Public and 21 Non-Public were selected to participate in this year’s tournament. Morris Knolls (Public A), Ramsey (Public B), and Delbarton (Non-Public) began the tournament as the top seed in their respective brackets.
In 2012, over 7,500 fans came out to Prudential Center to watch Randolph defeat Morristown 3-1 in the Public A Championship; Summit defeat Tenafly 2-1 (OT) in the Public B Championship; and Delbarton defeat Christian Brothers Academy 3-2 in the Non-Public Championship.
Tickets are available at the Prudential Center box office and are priced at $10.00 for adults and $3.00 for students and senior citizens. The box office is open from 11 AM-6 PM, and through the second intermission of Devils’ home games.
