GLENDALE - The Coyotes will be well represented at the 2014 IIHF World Championship, which begins Friday, May 9 in Minsk, Belarus.

Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett will serve as head coach for Team Canada in the 16-team event. Tippett has played for Team Canada and served as an assistant coach, but this will be his first time as Canada’s head coach.

"We'll have younger players for this tournament," Tippett said. "But even though we’ll have a younger team, a lot of those same strategies from the Olympics will be in place and it will be about using those young players the right way to find ways to win games."

Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker is competing for Denmark in this event for the fourth time. He has played 19 games in this tournament and notched six goals and five assists in those games.

Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy and forward Andy Miele have been picked for Team USA’s roster.

Murphy won a gold medal playing for Team USA at the IIHF 2013 World Junior Championship and he also won a gold medal playing for Team USA at the IIHF 2011 U18 World Junior Championship.

Miele skated for the U.S. team at the 2011 IIHF World Championship.

"I'm really excited," Miele said. "It's a chance to showcase yourself on a high stage and it's an awesome feeling to put on that USA sweater."

Prospect Tobias Rieder, who has been with the Coyotes since being acquired in a trade with Edmonton in March of 2013, is slated to play for Germany. He has played for Germany on multiple occasions, including twice at the U18 World Junior Championship (2009 & 2010).
