He made some very interesting comments at both sessions, some of which I have typed below, Q & A style:Q:
Which players stood out in tonight’s victory? A:
“I thought everybody competed very hard. Marty Hanzal and that line was pretty good for us. In a unique situation like this, I thought the veteran players took a stride tonight to make sure the team was going the right way. (Adrian) Aucoin was very good. Shane Doan
. Jimmy Vandermeer had a strong game.”Q:
What did you think of Ilya Bryzgalov’s performance tonight?A:
“He didn’t have a ton of traffic (but) he made two or three good saves. Yeah, it was a good, solid game for him. Any time a goaltender gets a shutout you like the way he plays and he made a couple good saves. I thought he was a part of the team but I thought the team played very well in front of him.”Q:
Were you pleased with your special teams tonight?

“I liked the fact that we didn’t put them on the power play a lot because I’ve seen their power play too much and it’s pretty good. I liked the fact that we stayed away from that. But the special teams, we’ve still got a lot of work to do on them.”Q:
Is this the type of game that this team is going to have to play all season to be successful?A:
“That’s exactly it. It’s going to be scoring by committee. If we’re going to rely on any one or two players to do it, I don’t think that’s going to get it done. So, we’re going to need help all the way through the lineup, and not just our forwards but our defensemen. We have to have people who have the ability to jump into the play. I thought (Keith) Yandle had a couple good chances to do that tonight and we’ll continue to push that along. It’s tough to score in this league … Everybody is going to have to pull their weight. That’s the only way this team is going to be successful."Q:
At this point, this team doesn’t have a bona fide enforcer. What do you think of that role?A:
“I’ve been a big believer in team toughness. I don’t think that can all be allocated to one guy, or if you put one guy on the bench it makes your team tougher. I believe you have to have toughness as a group. To me, toughness is more … a grit level within the game and it’s the one-on-one battles and not so much the fighting end of it. So, we’ll see where we are in those areas and if we start falling short in some of those areas we’ll certainly address it.”
