GLENDALE – Our season begins this week and I’m really excited to get going. It’s a new season with new opportunities for a new team and it starts now. This is what we’ve all been waiting for for a long time and it’s a good feeling. We’re all excited.
This is a great group of guys on our team and we have a good attitude. We all believe that nobody is worth more than the next guy and nobody is lower than the highest guy. I think that’s the strength of this team. Everybody has a role and everybody works 100 percent at that role, and we all do that together. That’s why I think this season is going to be a lot of fun. Hopefully we can start out on the right path with a win vs. Winnipeg on Thursday night.
We are playing our first four games at home, which is good because we did a lot of traveling in the preseason. We’ve got to take advantage of these first four games being on home ice. If we can get off to a good start at home then we can go out on the road for the first time feeling good about ourselves. That’s very important.
It was a long off-season away from the NHL but I had some good times.
I played for Denmark in the World Championship for the fourth time in Minsk. Our team didn’t do as well as we would have liked. Our goal was to reach the quarterfinals and that didn’t happen. But we’re still an A Group team and that’s real important to us. Plus it was nice to get to speak Danish instead of English for a change.
My parents, my brother and I all went to London together for four days. It’s a cool city, kind of like the New York City of Europe. We did all of the touristy things there and we did a lot of walking and had some good dinners. It was a real good time and a great way for me to bond with my family, who I don’t get to see very often.
I also went to Sweden and played in a golf tournament with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, our agent and one of his friends from his hometown. Our foursome won – which was a nice bonus. I’m not sure everyone else playing liked that we won since the tournament was sponsored by OEL of Sweden, but we were thrilled. It’s always fun to win, right?
Thank you for reading this blog. I look forward to writing more as the season goes along. I also look forward to seeing our fans come out to Glendale starting on Thursday when we begin the season.
