SCOTTSDALE – Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano served as a "Guest Coach" at the Coyotes' Prospect Development Camp on Wednesday at the Ice Den.

Modano, who owns a home in the area, is a friend of Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett; the latter coached the former for six seasons (2002-09) when both were with the Dallas Stars.
Tippett asked Modano if he'd like to stop by the skate and spend some time on the ice with the 28 prospects. Modano, the highest-scoring American-born NHL player (561 goals and 1,374 points), obliged.
"We were together a long time in Dallas and we're still good friends," Tippett said. "He still loves the game and likes to be around it so it was just a fun day for him… It was good to have him on the ice. I think it's good for our young players to see a guy like that out there and involved. I'm sure those kids had a good feeling seeing him out there."
The prospects had no advance notice that Modano would be joining them on the ice.
"It was pretty crazy," prospect Christian Fischer said. "They never told us so we were just skating around and you see a guy cruise by and you look and it's Mike Modano. It's pretty cool. I talked to him for just a minute but it was awesome to have him out there."
Prospect Nick Merkley agreed.
"He was a pretty amazing player," Merkley said. "Just to see him out there with us was pretty cool."
