Coyotes Head Coach Wayne Gretzky is among 82 luminaries slated to participate in the 19th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament this weekend in South Lake Tahoe, Nev.
It will be Gretzky’s second appearance in the event. He finished in 48th place in 1999.
Gretzky’s wife, Janet Jones, and Coyotes Goaltending Coach Grant Fuhr also are in the field. Fuhr, who finished third in this tournament last year and fourth two years ago, is considered one of the favorites to win.
Former NFL quarterback Chris Chandler is the defending champion.
The event is a 54-hole tournament that uses the modified Stableford scoring system. It begins Friday and concludes Sunday. ESPN2 will broadcast first-round coverage from 4-6 p.m. on Friday. NBC will broadcast second-round coverage from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, and final-round coverage from noon-3 p.m. on Sunday.
Longtime regulars Michael Jordan, John Elway and Ray Romano also are in the field. So are Mario Lemieux, and former Coyotes Brett Hull and Jeremy Roenick.
