Coyotes captain Shane Doan
will not play in Game 4 vs. the Detroit Red Wings tonight because of an undisclosed injury suffered in Game 3 on Sunday.
"It's tough because he's our leader on and off the ice, but it gives opportunity to lots of other guys to step up and take the minutes that he takes," defenseman/alternate captain Ed Jovanovski said. "We played a lot of the game without him the last game and managed to get it done, and I think tonight will be no different."
Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett said Doan may be able to play in Game 5 on Friday night at Jobing.com Arena.
"We just feel that with two days before the next game, we just feel like it's best for him to wait a couple of days," Tippett said.
Doan did not speak to reporters on Tuesday morning.
"I think early on, he was upset," Tippett said. "... but his demeanor yesterday was very good. I think it's a scenario where he knows he's not going to be out long-term, so he's doing whatever he can to make sure he gets back. His spirits are good and everything seems fine. He'll get a rest tonight and hopefully he can jump back in here Friday."
Doan, who has spent his entire NHL career with the Coyotes/Jets franchise, has not missed a game since the 2007-08 season. He had a goal and an assist in the first two-plus games of this series. EDITOR'S NOTE:
