DESERT ICE DAWGS
SLED HOCKEY TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND
Friday and Saturday, November 3rd and 4th
Phoenix Coyotes President and COO Douglas Moss announced today the Coyotes are a proud sponsor of the Desert Ice Dawgs Sled Hockey Tournament this Friday and Saturday, November 3rd and 4th at the Alltel Ice Den in Scottsdale. The Ice Den is located at 9375 E. Bell Rd.
This is the first Phoenix Coyotes Sled Hockey Tournament, and is held in memory of Pete Clute who passed away earlier this year. "It's Hockey for Pete's Sake" is the theme of the weekend in which teams from Colorado, Utah, California and Arizona will compete.
Ice sled hockey became an official Paralympic Winter sport at the Lillehammer games in 1994. Sled hockey gives people the chance to still play hockey despite their physical impairment. Instead of skates, players sit in specially designed sleds. The sleds sit on top of two hockey skate blades, and there are two sticks for each player instead of one.
The common goal of the weekend is to have fun and advance the sport of sled hockey to a wider audience. Admission to the tournament is free. Games start Friday morning at 8:15 A.M., and the consolation and championship games are Saturday at 5:30 P.M. and 6:55 P.M. respectively.
