GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Arizona Coyotes selected forward Dylan Strome from Erie of the Ontario Hockey League in the first round (third overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla., on Friday.
The 6-foot-3, 187-pound Strome led the OHL in scoring with 45-84-129 in 68 games this season to capture the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as the league’s top scorer. Strome, who established new franchise records in both points and assists, ranked first in the OHL in assists and third in goals while also recording 40 multi-point games.
He was also a co-winner of the Canadian Hockey League’s Sherwin-Williams Top Scorer Award as he tied Conor Garland for the CHL scoring lead. The 18-year-old native of Mississauga, ON received the William Hanley Memorial Trophy as the OHL’s most sportsmanlike player in 2014-15. His 32 penalty minutes were the sixth lowest among the top-20 scorers.
Strome was named the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season ending March 22 after registering 6-6-12 in three games including a career-high 4-2-6 in the regular season finale against Niagara.
