COYOTES RECALL MATT JONES FROM SAN ANTONIO

AND REASSIGN STEVE GAINEY TO SAN ANTONIO

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman Matt Jones from the San Antonio Rampage - the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL) - and have also reassigned forward Steve Gainey to San Antonio.

In 28 games with San Antonio this season, Jones has collected 7 assists and 22 penalty minutes (PIM).  This will be his third stint with Phoenix this season.  In his first professional season, the 6-foot, 215-pound defenseman has played in 4 NHL games with the Coyotes, recording 6 PIM.  Jones was last reassigned to San Antonio on Dec. 13.  The 22-year-old native of Downers Grove, Illinois was drafted by the Coyotes (3rd round, 80th overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Gainey has played in 11 games with the Coyotes this season, registering 1 assist and 2 PIM.  He returns to the Rampage after having been recalled to Phoenix on Dec. 15.  In 23 games with San Antonio this season, Gainey has collected 7-12-19 and 39 PIM.  The 6-foot-1, 192-pound forward currently leads the Rampage in assists and points, and ranks tied for 2nd in goals.  Gainey, 25, signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on Nov. 4, 2005.  In his NHL career, he has played in 24 NHL games (0-2-2 and 16 PIM) split between Phoenix and Dallas over parts of four seasons.

Jones will be available for tonight's Coyotes game against the Los Angeles Kings at Glendale Arena.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on KDKB (93.3 FM) and KDUS (1060 AM).  For ticket information, please call (480) 563-PUCK.
