Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced that the Coyotes have signed a one-year affiliation agreement with the Central Hockey League’s (CHL) Arizona Sundogs. The Sundogs will become the Coyotes’ sole ‘AA’ level affiliate this season.
“We are excited to be in partnership with the Sundogs and see benefits to both organizations from this new agreement,” said Maloney.
The Arizona Sundogs, who play their home games at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, are one of 17 teams in the CHL, competing in the Southwest Division along with Amarillo, New Mexico and Odessa. The team will begin its second season of play in 2007-08. The Sundogs’ franchise came into being on Aug. 23, 2005 when it was named an expansion franchise by the CHL. The club is led by Owner and Governor Eric Lacroix, President Brent Thiessen, as well as Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro.
“We’re very pleased to have an affiliation in place for our second season with a club the caliber of the Phoenix Coyotes organization,” said Pietroniro. “With less than 100 miles separating our two clubs, we’re excited to begin a working relationship that will benefit both organizations’ hockey and business operations."
Last season, the team finished with a 34-28-2 record and advanced to the second round of the CHL playoffs.
