GLENDALE, ARIZONA --
Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-signed defenseman Adrian Aucoin
to a two-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are very pleased to have re-signed Adrian to a two-year deal,” said Maloney. “He is an intelligent, puck-moving defenseman who brought tremendous leadership to our dressing room last season. We are looking forward to having him continue his career with the Coyotes.”
Aucoin, 36, registered 8-20-28 with 56 penalty minutes (PIM) while appearing in all 82 games for the Coyotes last season, his first with the team. Aucoin also scored six shootout-winning goals last season to lead the entire NHL while his 28 points ranked 4th among Coyotes defensemen. He also ranked 2nd on the Coyotes in average time on ice (22:33). In addition, Aucoin appeared in all seven of Phoenix’s postseason games, collecting two assists and 10 PIM.
In 2008-09, Aucoin registered 10-24-34 and 46 PIM with the Calgary Flames, ranking him 2nd among Calgary defensemen in goals, assists, points, shots (126) and average time on ice (22:17). During the 2007-08 season, Aucoin finished second among Flames defensemen in goals (10), assists (25), points (35) and ranked 3rd on the team in plus/minus (+13) and 5th in power-play goals (5).
The 6-foot-2, 213-pound Aucoin has appeared in 933 career NHL games with Vancouver, Tampa Bay, the New York Islanders, Chicago, Calgary and the Coyotes, collecting 116-248-364 with 683 PIM. He has also recorded 6-13-19 and 32 PIM in 47 career playoff games. Aucoin was named the Chicago Blackhawks captain during the 2006-07 campaign, collecting 4-12-16 in 59 games.
The native of Ottawa, Ontario also represented the Islanders in the 2004 NHL All Star Game.
