The “coolest sport on ice” came to a few “cool schools” on Monday as the Coyotes Caravan brought Phoenix Coyotes hockey to elementary schools in Prescott and Mesa.
Coyotes Center Daniel Winnik, along with Coyotes Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Bob Heethius, Coyotes Radio Color Analyst Louie DeBrusk and Howler, visited with kids at Prescott’s Miller Valley Elementary and Lincoln Elementary schools. Meanwhile, at Mesa’s Patterson Elementary School, Coyotes TV Color Analyst Darren Pang, Coyotes Radio’s Matt Rosen, forward Daniel Carcillo and defenseman Logan Stephenson stopped in for a crash course in NHL hockey
Education was the theme of the day as the groups stressed the importance of proper nutrition, exercise and making sure that safety gear is part of the children’s active lives. The lessons learned came with a good dose of fun, of course, as the players and announcers – with a little help from Howler, explained how the Coyotes take care of their bodies and what they wear on the ice, including the chance for a few kids to try on the gear themselves.
All the children at the schools received a Phoenix Coyotes Cool Schools Student Workbook. Sponsored by the Arizona Department of Health Services, the workbook helps children to understand the importance of a healthy body, mind and environment, as taught by Howler and Coyotes’ Captain Shane Doan
Day Three of the Caravan wrapped up at Wal-Mart at Elliot Road and Priest Drive in Tempe as Carcillo and Stephenson signed autographs for fans.
Coyotes’ fans can come join the Caravan on Tuesday at Wal-Mart at Camelback Road and 95th Avenue in Phoenix from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and meet Coyotes forward Steven Reinprecht.PREVIOUS RECAPS
