Sixth Episode of Caps Red Line Talks with Jeff Halpern about Hometown Hockey

ARLINGTON, Va. – Caps Red Line (CRL) presented by GEICO is back for its fourth season with Episode 6 on Comcast SportsNet on Saturday, March 16, at 9 a.m. The sixth episode of this fast-paced, behind-the-scenes show offers perspective from hometown-hero Jeff Halpern who talks about his return to The District. Each episode will also be replayed on Comcast SportsNet and through the “On Demand” feature where available. A new episode will air every Saturday at 9 a.m. on Comcast SportsNet through March 31.


Returning for another season with CRL is Elliot Segal from Elliot in the Morning, Professor Lou Bloomfield, Ph.D., along with host Guerin Austin. Fans can watch archived episodes or stay up to date with the show on the Caps Red Line webpage on WashingtonCaps.com and the Red Line Channel on Caps365. CRL won the 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Program Achievement for Sports – Programming Series, by the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS-NCCB).

CRL takes you behind the scenes of Cody Eakin, Marcus Johansson and Mathieu Perreault’s visit to the Smithsonian National Zoo where they skated at the GEICO iceless rink with members of the Caps Kids Club. The guys even got up close and personal with the lions and tigers during their behind the scenes tour.

Caps Video coach Blaine Forsythe explains how he prepares the team for each opponent through film breakdown, identifying game-time strategies from the press level and how he communicates to the coaches behind the bench.

Elliot Segal learns what it takes to be a member of the Ice Crew. He’s welcomed into the world of ice cleaning, ice resurfacing and glass break changes. Don't worry, all those are still handled by the best in the business, but Elliot goes along for the ride and shovels snow.

The Season

We pick up again with Jeff Halpern as he discusses how lucky he was to grow up in the Washington, D.C., area and eventually play for his hometown team. Jeff talks about how important it is to do his part for the local youth hockey players and give them someone to look up to.
