Sasha Pokulok Named to Canadian National Junior Team

Washington, D.C. – December 16, 2005 – Defenseman Sasha Pokulok, Washington’s first-round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft (14th overall) has been named to the 2006 Canadian National Junior Team, Hockey Canada announced. Pokulok will compete in the 2006 World Junior Championship that runs from Dec. 26, 2005, through Jan. 5, 2006, in British Columbia.
Pokulok will join Capitals prospect Chris Bourque in the tournament, which features the world’s best players under the age of 20. Bourque, a Hershey Bears forward, has been named to the U.S. National Junior Team.
Pokulok, 19, is one of seven defensemen on Team Canada. The 6’5”, 220-pound native of Montreal is a sophomore at 10th-ranked Cornell University of the ECAC Hockey League, where he has five points (one goal, four assists) and 29 penalty minutes in 11 games this season.
