Dev Camp Day Two: Connor Hobbs' Blog

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
I think the on-ice testing went really well for everyone on Team Red today. I was actually mic’d up during the tests, so if I was a little slow, it was because it weighed me down! But in all seriousness, it was pretty cool. I’ve never really done anything like it before. The session included some skill tests, like puck handling and transition skating, as well as some straightaway tests that tested our straight-up speed. I’m excited to see how I stack up against other guys, and I know they feel the same way.

We had an early wake-up call this morning for a workout on an outdoor track. I don’t have many opportunities to work out outside up in Regina, so it was a nice change of pace. It was a lot more humid than it is back home, so I was leaking pretty badly along with the other guys. But we worked hard, and it was pretty sweet.
I got really lucky to be paired up with Dajon Mingo this week. He’s the oldest guy here, and it’s awesome to be able to learn from a guy with his experience. He’s been showing me the ropes, and we have a similar sense of humor. We both like to have fun and joke around, but we’re serious when the time comes to be serious. I think we’re a real good pair out there.
I’ve only been to a couple of MLB games, so I’m pumped for tonight’s game. I think the atmosphere of MLB games in the states is very similar to the feel of Roughriders football games in Saskatchewan. CFL fans come out to games in big numbers and can get pretty crazy. I’m looking forward to hanging out with the guys in a more low-key setting than what we have at the rink.
