WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have recalled left wing Tomas Fleischmann from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Fleischmann, 22, currently ranks tied for second in the AHL in goals (eight) and tied for fourth in points (14) in just seven games. He leads the league in points per game (2.0) and is the only member of the AHL’s top 23 scorers with fewer than nine games played. He has also made one appearance with the Capitals, in a 5-2 win against Carolina on Oct. 5. Fleischmann will wear No. 43 in tonight’s game at Philadelphia (7 p.m., WDCW-TV 50, WTNT-AM 570).
A 6’1”, 190-pound native of Koprivinice, Czech Republic, Fleischmann played 14 games with the Capitals last season, recording two assists. The third-year professional was the Bears’ leading scorer in the playoffs last season, posting 11 goals and 21 assists (32 points) in 20 games as Hershey won the Calder Cup. He led the Bears in goals (30) and ranked second in points (63) in just 57 AHL games last season, one of only four of the AHL’s top 40 scorers with fewer than 60 games played.
