WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Lawrence Nycholat from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Nycholat, 27, leads all AHL defensemen in points (28) and assists (25) through 29 games. Hershey’s captain, he is tied for second on the Bears in scoring and leads the team with a +14 rating. Nycholat is poised to make his Capitals debut tonight at Toronto (7 p.m., Comcast SportsNet, SportsTalk 980) and will wear No. 3.
A 5’11”, 200-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, Nycholat made his NHL debut in 2003-04, playing nine games with the New York Rangers. He played in the AHL All-Star Game last season and was a member of Hershey’s 2006 Calder Cup championship team.
