ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Philipp Grubauer and defenseman Dmitry Orlov from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Capitals re-assigned center Michael Latta to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Grubauer, 22, has appeared in nine games with Herhsey (AHL) this season, posting a 4-4-1 record with one shutout, a 2.60 GAA and a .910 save percentage. In 37 career AHL games, the 6’1”, 190-pound goaltender has posted a 19-13-3 record with three shutouts, a 2.34 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
Grubauer made his NHL debut on Feb. 27 in Philadelphia, stopping all 14 shots he faced in 25:05 of ice time. Grubauer made his first career NHL start on March 9 at the New York Islanders, making 40 saves. The Rosenheim, Germany, native has posted a 2.34 GAA and .917 save percentage in two career NHL games with Washington. Grubauer was drafted by Washington is the fourth-round, 112th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Orlov, 22, ranks first among Hershey defensemen in points this season, earning nine points (three goals, six assists) in 11 games. The Novokuznetsk, Russia, native tallied an AHL career-high four points (one goal, three assists) on Oct. 19 in the Bears’ 4-0 win over the St. John’s IceCaps. Orlov has registered 44 points (12 goals, 32 assists) and 48 penalty minutes in 76 career AHL games. The 5’11”, 211-pound defenseman has appeared in 65 career regular-season games for the Capitals, registering 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) and 18 penalty minutes. Orlov was drafted by Washington in the second round, 55th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Latta, 22, has registered four points (one goal, three assists) and seven penalty minutes in 16 career NHL games with Washington this season. The Kitchener, Ontario, native made his NHL debut against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 1, earned his first NHL point with an assist on Nov. 2 against Florida and scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 15 at Detroit. The 6’0”, 212-pound center has played in six games with the Bears this season, collecting four points (two goals, two assits) and 25 penalty minutes. In 137 career AHL games with Milwaukee and Hershey, Latta has registered 70 points (26 goals, 44 assists) and 325 penalty minutes.
