WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Frederic Cassivi from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Cassivi, who has been called up once already this season (Feb. 4-7), backed-up goaltender Olie Kolzig in net for two games (Feb. 4 vs. New York Islanders, Feb. 6 vs. Boston) but has yet to see action in goal for the Capitals this year. The 31-year old netminder has appeared in 28 games with Hershey, posting a 15-7-4 record and 2.55 goals-against average.
The 2006 Jack Butterfield Trophy winner as the most valuable player of the AHL playoffs, Cassivi is a 6’4”, 221-pound native of Sorel, Quebec. The 12-year professional has appeared in nine NHL games in his career with Atlanta and Washington.
