WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 19, 2006 – The Washington Capitals have recalled left wing Alexandre Giroux from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Giroux, 25, is in his sixth professional season and is tied for second in the AHL with 21 goals. He leads Hershey and ranks ninth in the AHL with 32 points in 27 games. The 6’3”, 201-pound native of Quebec City signed with Washington as a free agent on July 14. He will be available to make his Capitals debut at tonight’s 7 p.m. game against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Verizon Center (Comcast SportsNet, SportsTalk 980).
Giroux made his NHL debut as a member of the New York Rangers – his only NHL appearance to this point – on March 26, 2006, against Tampa Bay. He had two assists in five preseason games for the Capitals this season.
