ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have re-assigned center Casey Wellman to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Wellman, 26, has appeared in 23 games for the Bears this season, registering 13 points (seven goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes. The 6’0”, 183-pound center recorded a hat trick against Charlotte on Nov. 14 and ranks tied for first among Hershey skaters in goals (7) and sixth on the team in points (13). In 192 career AHL games, Wellman has recorded 148 points (60 goals, 88 assists) and 67 penalty minutes.
The Brentwood, California, native made his Capitals debut on Dec. 17 against Philadelphia. Wellman has appeared in 42 career NHL games with Minnesota and Washington, registering 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and four penalty minutes. Washington acquired Wellman from Florida in exchange for Zach Hamill on Jan. 31, 2013.
