ARLINGTON, Va. - Washington Capitals players’ wives and girlfriends partnered with the wives of the Washington Wizards’ coaching staff and went holiday shopping for 20 families adopted through the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Family-to-Family program at the Skyline Target on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Family-to-Family is an initiative that provides holiday cheer to underserved and deserving families in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Caps players’ wives and girlfriends Carmen Brouwer, Amelia Falk, Mandy Flemmer, Kelley Halpern, Monika Hybnerova, Mackenzie Keeley, Megan Knuble and Lindsay MacDonald along with Patrice Cleary, wife of Wizards strength and conditioning coach Drew Cleary, Debbie Saunders, wife of Wizards head coach Flip Saunders and Wizards assistant coach Ryan Saunders shopped for 60 children and 25 adults, spending $325 on each person. The children will receive clothing, an educational item and toys, while the parents and guardians will receive clothing and household items along with grocery gift cards.

By the end of the day 75 shopping carts and one full sized JK Moving Services truck were all filled with clothing, bikes, toys and presents.

“This was my first time participating in this event,” said Lindsay MacDonald, fiancée of Capitals defenseman Dennis Wideman. “It was a lot of fun shopping for the families. I really hope they like what we picked out for them.”

“This is such a great event and we hope this brightens up Christmas for the families,” said Megan Knuble, wife of Capitals forward Mike Knuble.

“It was such a rewarding event to be a part of,” said Debbie Saunders, wife of Wizards head coach Flip Saunders. ‘The holidays are about people helping and caring about one another.”

This was the third season the Capitals’ wives and girlfriends shopped for the holidays, but the first time they have joined forces with the Washington Mystics and Wizards to participate in the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Family-to-Family program.

The Capitals, Mystics and Wizards are planning to deliver presents to seven of the families and will host the other 13 at a to be determined event.
