Capitals Launch Coached by a Cap Program

by Staff Writer / Washington Capitals
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals launched a new program today, Coached by a Cap, which provides local amateur hockey teams an opportunity to receive an on-ice visit from a Caps player.

Coached by a Cap will run from October through February and is part of the Capitals’ Pucks to Bucks program, so it also serves as a fundraiser for local teams. In Pucks to Bucks, funds are generated through Capitals ticket sales with a portion of the proceeds donated back to the team or club that buys them.

Teams become eligible to participate in Coached by a Cap when they purchase at least 30 tickets to a 2007-08 Capitals home game through the Pucks to Bucks/Coached by a Cap link located on WashingtonCaps.com.

Two teams will be selected each month and assigned a Caps player who will “coach” their team. The player will attend the team’s practice, skate with the players, demonstrate skills, answer questions and sign autographs.

Teams of all ages in the Washington, D.C., area are encouraged to enter. Entries will be accepted until Feb. 25, with the last Coached by a Cap selection being made on Feb. 26. Once a team enters they are eligible to be selected for the duration of the program. However, teams may receive only one player visit per season.
