WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 18, 2006 – The Washington Capitals joined forces with DC101 and the Marine Corps Reserve for their annual Toys for Tots toy drive Dec. 16 at Verizon Center, and Caps fans made the event an overwhelming success.

alt“I was honored to be this year’s Toys for Tots spokesman,” said Capitals center Brian Sutherby. “I want to thank all the Caps fans for their donations.”

“We collected more than 1,000 toys and $1,500 in cash donations,” said Gunnery Sergeant Ray Fenwick. “The toy drive was a huge success and on behalf of the Toys for Tots program we appreciate all of the help that we received from the Washington Capitals and their fans.”

Capitals fans filled a 20-foot truck with more than 1,000 brand-new toys. Every fan who donated a toy also received a free Sutherby poster. This is the seventh year the Capitals have hosted the Toys for Tots toy drive with the Marine Corps Reserve.
