Net proceeds of the event are going to the Canucks for Kids Fund, the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund, KidSport BC, the Britannia Hockey Academy, and the Boys & Girls Club Hockey Program. In 2009, this event raised in excess of $170,000 for the Canucks for Kids Fund, the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund, Ronald McDonald House British Columbia, KidSport BC and the Luc Bourdon Memorial Fund. The Canucks Centre for BC Hockey in partnership with BC Minor Hockey raised an additional $2500 for minor hockey teams throughout BC.
This event allows Canucks players, joined by 16 minor hockey players, to showcase their skill and agility in six individual on-ice events and is a great and affordable way for families to see the players in a fun atmosphere.
Doors will open at 12:00 p.m. with on-ice activities starting at 1:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come early to take part in the various concourse activities, including the opportunity to have a photo taken with the Stanley Cup. The first 10,000 fans will also receive a commemorative team photo card. For complete event details please visit Canucks.com/skills.
The Vancouver Canucks recently announced changes that will greater enable fans with peanut allergies to enjoy Vancouver Canucks events. The Canucks will have peanut restrictions in effect during the January 17th Super Skills event.
“In an effort to accommodate our fans with peanut allergies, peanuts in the shell will not be sold during Open Practice and Super Skills” said Harvey Jones, Vice President and General Manager, Arena Operations. “We hope this initiative provides fans with peanut allergies an opportunity to enjoy a Canucks event in an environment that is more conducive to their situation.”
