On Sunday, November 29th the minor hockey version of Team Canada were present at GM Place.
Winning an auction to hold a practice with Canucks Associate Coach Ryan Walter, Vancouver Thunderbirds Atom Rep A-3 team donned Team Canada jerseys each representing a different player. The players were honoring the upcoming Olympics and had the name and number of their Team Canada mentor on their back.
The Thunderbirds were put through the paces with a variety of drills run by Walter and finished their ice time with a scrimmage. The team then stayed to watch a number of Canucks whom were on hand for their optional game day skate.
The morning was capped off with Canucks defenseman Shane O’Brien distributing a number of pucks into the stands for the players to take home. The visit helped to escalate the interest of the players to achieve a higher level of play and to commit to their team just as Team Canada players will be doing in just under two months on the same ice.
Manager Kelly Morrison said the team would like to thank Ryan Walter for being a part of their special day. She said “The boys learned a lot about both hockey and life from him, it was a day they won’t soon forget.”Story by Leah Peden, Canucks Centre Student Associate
