Ride for Hope 2009

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks
Canucks alumni demonstrated their ongoing commitment to the community by taking part in the third annual Ride for Hope on Wednesday, July 8.  The Ride for Hope charity bike ride was developed to raise awareness and funds for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, North America’s first free standing children’s hospice, which provides pediatric palliative care for B.C. children living with progressive life-limiting illnesses.

The Ride for Hope stretches over 200 kilometres, starting in Surrey and finishing in Hope, with a total ride time of just over six hours.

Canucks alumni Jeff Bandura, Terry Bingley, Dean Malkoc, Gary Nylund, Dan Clark, and Doug Deacon rode their bikes through challenging, rainy conditions, while Garry Monahan, Dennis Ververgaert and Fin offered their support to the ride by signing autographs in Mission.

In its first two years, Ride for Hope raised almost $40,000 for Canuck Place. This year alone, a very impressive $45,166 was raised!  If you would like to donate, please visit

A big thank you to our Canucks alumni for giving your time, passion, and support to the Ride for Hope and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice!

Next year’s ride will take place on Wednesday, July 7!
