When the prospects camp ended, all of us had to check-out of the hotel and wait for the vets to show up to check-in again to the hotel with a new roommate. For me though, this was the third time I checked-in to a hotel in less than a week.
I’m now rooming with Victor Oreskovich – he’s a big guy but he’s really nice. We were talking last night and it turns out he’s really into movies and tv shows as well so we were just talking about that for a bit. It’s only been one night but so far, he seems like a good roommate – he doesn’t snore so that’s a definite plus.
I know I was here last year and I’ve seen a lot of these guys before but it’s really neat to think that I’m working out with Luongo or the Sedins. You try to think of yourself as the same because we’re at the same camp but at the same time, it’s pretty special. Once I’m out there though, who’s on the ice matters less because we’re all here trying to show what we can do and I can’t get caught up in the other names on the ice.
We had a day off yesterday, while the vets had their testing in Vancouver so it was nice to get a day to ourselves. My dad went home yesterday so we went for breakfast in the morning and then just relaxed the rest of the day.
There was a big team meeting with all the players from camp and then had a buffet dinner with all the Canucks staff and players. Usually at buffets, it’s pretty basic but this one wasn’t – it was really good.
At night, some of us rookies ended up watching Toy Story 3 and I thought it was pretty entertaining. I heard that some people cried watching the movie but I think in a group of guys, we were all being tough so no tears last night.
Today’s movie is going to be a movie that just came out that we’re going to see tonight: The Town with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner. Sauve and Oberg went to that yesterday and they said it was pretty good. Since I’ve played with Sauve for three years, I know him pretty well now and he’s got decent taste in movies so I’ll take his word for it and go check it out. I’ll keep you posted tomorrow.
