Luongo bolsters Canuck Place public service announcement helping kids embrace life one goal at a time

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks
Today Canuck Place revealed a new public service campaign ‘Embracing Life one goal at a time…’ once again featuring Canucks Captain and goaltender Roberto Luongo.

“The Vancouver Canucks and the Canucks for Kids Fund are always very supportive of our awareness initiatives and we are excited that Roberto agreed to be part of our campaign again this year,” said Filomena Nalewajek, Chief Executive Officer of Canuck Place. “We are thrilled with the success of last year’s ad and so grateful to him for his ongoing involvement with us.”

This year Luongo and 11-year-old Jaxson Creasy of Victoria are joined by 9-year-old Quinn Lesiuk of Kelowna to play street hockey in the playground at Canuck Place. Quinn, a child on the Canuck Place program and a loyal Canuck’s fan, learns to play goal from her favourite goalie while Jaxson offers some advice to Luongo on getting the ball past Quinn in net.

“What touched me most was their spirit and perseverance,” said Luongo. “Every day Quinn and Jaxson, like all the children on the Canuck Place program, face incredible challenges,” stated Luongo. “With life threatening illnesses these kids truly do embrace life one goal at a time. I’m proud to support Canuck Place and hope I can assist in building awareness for families in need in BC.”

The public service announcement was created and produced by Insight Film Studios. “Canuck Place makes a difference in the lives of children and families across our province,” explained Kirk Shaw, Chief Executive Officer of Insight Film Studios. “Everyone at Insight is proud to lend our knowledge and expertise to help support Canuck Place through this public service campaign.”

“We rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations and organizations to provide our program at no cost to over 350 children with life threatening illnesses and their families throughout British Columbia,” said Nalewajek. “Insight Film Studios and the Vancouver Canucks are longtime partners of ours and we are so grateful for their generosity.”
