Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks are pleased to announce that captain Henrik Sedin and alternate captains Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler have been named to an All-Star Team for the 2011 NHL All-Star Game in Raleigh, North Carolina, on January 30th. The three forwards will represent the Vancouver Canucks for the annual event.
Reining Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner, Henrik, leads the NHL in assists this season with 45 through 41 games played. He has 17 points (3-14-17) in the last 10 games played, helping Vancouver to a record of 8-0-2 in that span. The Canucks captain currently is the all-time leader in assists with 479 and is 17th among active NHL players for most assists. This will be his second NHL All-Star Game appearance.
Alternate captain Daniel will be making his first NHL All-Star Game appearance. Daniel was named the NHL’s first star of the week for the week ending Jan. 9th as he led all NHL players in goals (5) and points (7), helping Vancouver to a 3-0-1 record. He currently leads Vancouver and is third in the NHL in goals (25).
Alternate captain Kesler is second on the Canucks in goals (24) and first in TOI per game (20:25). The centreman is second on the team and eighth in the League in faceoff percentage (57.9%) and leads the team and is tied for second in the League in game-winning goals (5). This will be Kesler’s first NHL All-Star Game appearance.
Kesler and the Sedins were named to the All-Star Game by the NHL’s Hockey Operations Department, after consultation with League General Managers.
The three Canucks forwards will join 39 other All-Stars to play in the 2011 NHL All-Star Game presented by Discover on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the RBC Center. Each team will be comprised of three goalies, six defencemen and 12 forwards. Of the 42 players who will take part in the game, six (two forwards, one defenceman per team) will be chosen as captains. They will then choose sides in an 18-round fantasy draft that will determine the teams for the All-Star Game. Twelve NHL Rookies, along with the 42 All-Stars, will participate in the Honda NHL SuperSkills® on Sat., Jan. 29 at the RBC Center.
