Coaching Day In BC

by Staff Writer / Vancouver Canucks

Today was an exciting day for BC minor hockey players and coaches alike, as the Vancouver Canucks in conjunction with Tim Hortons hosted a free, one day only coaching clinic at Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby. Minor hockey coaches from across the province attended this morning to watch Canuck Associate Coaches, Mike Johnston, Barry Smith and Jack McIlhargey in action during the Canucks morning skate.

This was a great opportunity for BC coaches to pick up some pointers from the big guys as all the Canuck coaches were miked during the practice. Following the Canucks skate, the "Timbits" hit the ice to join BC Hockey Course Conductors and local Minor hockey coaches for an ice demonstration before the coaches workshops kicked off.

The Peninsula Pee Wee C Major Eagles who won this year's Hockey day in Canada Poster Contest came all the way from North Saanich to attend today's event. The kids got more then their 15 minutes of fame with CBC Television who was there interviewing the team Captain and asking the kids about their winning poster.

Alex Auld brought smiles to two of his biggest fans by giving away his sticks to the Team's goalies. The Major Eagles will also get the opportunity to watch their idols on the ice tonight when they take on the Calgary Flames at General Motors Place. Game time is 7:00 pm.
