Canucks select Cody Hodgson in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have selected centre Cody Hodgson in the first round, 10th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Hodgson, 18, was a member of Brampton during the 2007-08 season where he ranked in the top 20 in OHL scoring with 85 points and led the Battalion in goals with 40 in 68 games. He also recorded five goals in five playoff games before Brampton was eliminated in the first round.

The 6'0", 185 lbs centre was named captain of team Canada who won gold at the 2008 Under-18 IIHF World Championships. He scored 12 points (2-10-12) and led all skaters in assists (10). The Haliburton, Ontario native also won a gold medal with Team Ontario at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

Hodgson was born on February 18, 1990.
