by Tyson Giuriato / Vancouver Canucks

Two up, two down

The Vancouver Canucks announced on Sunday that they have assigned forwards Zack Kassian and Andrew Gordon to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and recalled forwards Nicklas Jensen and Bill Sweatt.

Jensen, the Canucks first-round selection in 2011, posted four points (2-2-4) in 11 games with the Wolves this season. The Denmark, native spent the majority of the season with AIK in the Swedish Elite League where he registered 17 goals in 50 games, good for top spot in the league among rookies. spoke with Jensen on March 22nd and asked the 6’2”, 202lbs sniper if he felt he was ready for the call to the NHL.

“If I got the chance to get called up I would take it right away and do my best to help the team,” said Jensen. “I feel I would be ready for it, but I still need to prove it down here and play good every night. Right now I am not thinking about it that much, I am trying to just take it one day at a time and be the best I can be when I step onto the ice with the Wolves.”

Jensen can appear in up to five games with the Canucks without burning the first year of his entry-level contract.

As for Sweatt, this is not his first go-around with the big club as he appeared in two games during the 2011-12 season with the Canucks. The Elburn, Illinois, native amassed 29 points (12-17-29) in 56 games for the Wolves this season, including 17 points (6-11-17) in the past 25 games.

It remains to be seen where the two will be slotted into the lineup, however, Sweatt and Jensen had been playing together on the Wolves second-line for the past three games.

Kassian, who has been battling a back injury as of late, returns to Chicago where he picked up 20 points (7-13-20) in 28 games to start the season. The 6’3”, 215lbs power-forward posted eight points (5-3-8) in 27 games with the Canucks this season.

The Canucks return to action on Monday night as they travel to San Jose to take on the Sharks.
