The Vancouver Canucks Alumni will be suiting up to play the Powell River Regal Alumni to raise money for The Abundance Initiative Fund. The game is set for 7pm at the Powell River Recreation Centre Arena on January 30th, 2010. The game will also be a tribute to Gary Lupul, whom was considered the “Pride of Powell River” and these two organizations being the last in North America in which Gary played for. Lupul who passed away in 2007 was a huge part of the hockey community and the game will be a testament of what he enjoyed best, hockey and teaching hockey to children.
The Powell River Regal Hockey Society has developed “The Abundance Initiative” built to increase involvement with youth and hockey.
This initiative will fund any boy or girl whom wants to play hockey in Powell River from ages 5 to 8. The fund will pay for all their registration and equipment costs. It is expected that this will be an ongoing initiative that will enhance minor hockey in Powell River. The society hopes to change the landscape of minor hockey and allow youth an opportunity to get involved in this great sport.
