by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

Canada vs. Sweden

Canada meanwhile managed to light the lamp six times in their quarterfinals clash against Sweden on Thursday. Habs forward Brendan Gallagher notched an assist on Derick Brassard’s insurance marker in the third period.

Canada’s 6-0 shutout victory over Sweden sets up a semifinals matchup against Mike Condon and the USA.

Russia vs. Germany

After falling behind 1-0 following the first 20 minutes, Alexei Emelin and Russia stormed back with four unanswered goals - including two off the stick of Vadim Shipachyov – to take a commanding 4-1 lead.

Russian netminder Sergei Bobrovsky kept Germany off the score-sheet the rest of the way to preserve the 4-1 victory. Up next for Emelin and the Russians is a date against Finland in the semifinals on Saturday May 21.
