The Numbers Game - Nov. 10, 2011

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

PHOENIX – Here's a numerical look at the showdown between the Canadiens and the Coyotes in Phoenix on Thursday night.

2 – Number of players that were in the Coyotes lineup for their last victory against the Canadiens in December of 1998. They’re both still in the NHL, with Shane Doan now captaining the Phoenix squad and Daniel Brière having made his way over to the Philadelphia Flyers.

2500 – As of Thursday night, the number of games played over the franchise history of the Phoenix Coyotes, counting of course their time spent in the 49th parallel as the Winnipeg Jets.

27 – Number of shifts for Tomas Plekanec over the course of Thursday night’s game, with the No. 14 making a comeback – much to the relief of Habs fans everywhere – at the beginning of the second period.

3 – Number of goals scored by Brian Gionta on Saturday nights so far this season, with the Habs captain netting his first goal on another day of the week by beating Mike Smith in the second period of Thursday night’s match-up.

99 – Number of NHL games played by former Canadiens first-round draft-pick, Kyle Chipchura since leaving Montreal on December 1st, 2009 to head to Anaheim.

33 – Number of career games played by Travis Moen against the Coyotes – the most of any current Canadien player. The Habs gritty forward netted his fifth goal of the season in the second period to give the Habs the lead.

1 – Number of games out of a possible 18 since the former Jets landed in Arizona in 1996 where the Canadiens haven’t added at least a point to their standings thanks to a game against the Coyotes.
