The Numbers Game - Jan. 12, 2012

by Staff Writer / Montréal Canadiens

BOSTON – Here’s a numerical look at the game between the Canadiens and the Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday night.

3 – Number of goals scored by Tomas Plekanec over the course of the first four meetings between the Bruins and the Canadiens this season leading up to Thursday night’s game. Plekanec led all players from either team in goals in the season series going into Game 5, scoring in the first, second and fourth games.

16 – Number of shots taken by the Canadiens on Tim Thomas in the game’s first frame alone – only three less than they managed over the entirety of their last game against the Blues.

13:44 – Mike Blunden’s ice time over the course of Thursday night’s game. The sizable forward would find himself flanking Tomas Plekanec and Michael Cammalleri against the Bruins in the absence of Brian Gionta.

10.2 – Percentage of NHL starts by Carey Price that have come against the Bruins, with the Habs goaltender between the pipes for 24 tilts against the Boston squad.

1 – Canadiens’ overall penalty kill ranking in the NHL when the team is on the road. The Habs would improve on their 92% success rate in enemy buildings, stopping 4 Bruins power plat attempts in Thursday night’s tilt.

2.4 – Average number of checks thrown per game by Mike Blunden, ranking him second on the team in that category behind only Alexei Emelin. Blunden would boost his average against the Bruins thanks to his 5 Thursday night hits.

294 – Number of days since the Habs last suffered back-to-back shutouts, falling to the Sabres on March 22 and then to the Bruins on March 24, not managing a goal in either game.
